8.1 Collaborate, Communicate and Connect
Think Global!Think about the world as your classroom. Open the digital doors and windows to let in the world and connect out to the world. Through your digital portal, not only YOU can benefit, but your students will also learn in a global context. This video clip will explore why this is important.
Within Canadian schools, there is a growing culture of sharing and connecting with others in global contexts. Often this is done in relation to social justice issues or as the result of character education. TakingITGlobal is one source for educators to connect to global contexts. iEARN focuses on connecting students to global contexts for specific projects.
By connecting learning to the topic of social justice you, as the teacher, can shape and inform students on their rights and responsibilities as a digital citizen. Finding one project for YOU or your students is a click away. Here is one that has had a local impact.http://mswift.edublogs.org/2011/05/20/how-to-put-your-bitstrips-characters-on-things/ |

As you explore, find ONE project or idea that interests you for future application. Which idea, project or topic would capture your attention and connects to your own passions. This wiki (http://ecoo11-mindsonmedia.wikispaces.com/home) provides links to several special topics related to teaching and technology. For this session we will investigate and analyze two sections of this wiki further, with a digi-buddy. ACT LOCAL! - Sharing stories from the classroom
Using a variety of Web 2.0 tools, teachers can now communicate, connect and collaborate with a focus on student learning. Here are a few stories from the classroom. These are models for others to find ways to share the stories of teaching and learning. Teacher Jonathan So shared his "A Day in the Life of a Grade Two Classroom" on Storify. Living and Learning (another Storify) presents A. Dunsinger's classroom experiences as she tries to work without worksheets.
